16.00 – 18.00 Music in Film presented by Screen Training Ireland
James Hickey from a legal ( and IFB) perspective, IMRO, MCPRS, and an experienced Music Supervisor for film. This session is geared towards producers and filmmakers, and offer perspectives on how they can access new Irish music (either via composers for film scores or bands for songs and music) and how exploring this through the relevant representative organisations can really prove to be a cost effective way to source original Irish music for your film.

Tom Cater Domino Publishing My music career started in 2008 by running club nights in Brighton and booking bands that were local or passing through the city. In 2009 I moved to London to study and in my second year started my first internship at a label called Back Yard Recordings. Whilst at Back Yard, I was running a club night called Wasted Youth in Kilburn where I discovered a band called Films. I had a go at managing the band on the little experience I had but whilst momentum and interest built, we separated and the band went on to become Alt-J. In my final year of studying I met a manager called Mikey Stirton (whom I still work with today) and started assisting him on day-to-day management activities for his artists. This was ideal for me since I could be flexible with the hours as everything was done on email. After graduating I got my first paid job at R&S Records as a talent scout. Whilst there I began managing bands myself, one of which were a band called Vondelpark who ended up releasing their album on the label. In late 2012 I joined Perfect Songs Publishing as an A&R where I quickly learnt the role of a creative publisher; putting writers in session, finding tracks, pitching songs and more. Whilst here I started managing an artist called Only Real who I done my first major label deal with by signing him to Virgin EMI in 2013. In January 2014 I joined Domino Publishing where I’m still based and have been actively signing and developing talent since. Recent signings include, PlanningToRock, Peh Per Ghost, Seven Davis Jr and Archie Pelago.
